| I had for some time been trying to organise a tour of Australian war and battlefield sites in Europe unsuccessfully. I then contacted Phil Hoffmann Travel, a Virtuoso Agent who used EuroPanache with excellent results. Our guide Ian Gumm and his wife provided an amazing tour. Ian was enlightening and very knowledgeable of the area and the war. Ian is a Major in the Welsh Fusiliers of The Territorial army and had a better understanding and interest. | I am writing this article on behalf of both my wife and I. We have friends who both like and insist upon, organising every aspect of their overseas travel. We respect their desire to organise and economise their travel; they are welcome to the micro-rooms in basic establishments, the problems which they must resolve (by themselves) associated with “acts of nature” that disrupt their carefully planned air travel and other unplanned exigencies etc. We on the other hand have no interest in pursuing our international travel at this personal level of detail. We wish to travel with a high level of personal comfort, security and detailed knowledge about the places we are to visit. It is for this reason that we seek the services of the Phil Hoffmann Travel agency. Over time we have established a personal relationship with a senior travel consultant whom we know has travelled on all of the air and shipping lines and to most of the locations, of interest to us. Our holiday plans are developed through an interactive discussion with this senior consultant often involving references to web sites and relevant literature. This is backed up with excellent advice on “special deals”, local attractions, organised tours, selection of well located, comfortable, secure and appropriately serviced accommodation. We rely on this professional advice because we have a high level of trust and confidence in our consultant and the backup services provided through Phil Hoffmann Travel. It doesn't stop there, as Phil Hoffmann Travel is a member of the world wide Virtuoso travel group. “Virtuoso is a by-invitation-only luxury travel network comprised of elite travel consultants. A critical aspect of the Virtuoso experience is that extra benefits are negotiated, at no additional cost to Phil Hoffmann Travel clients. This is best demonstrated by examples. For instance last year we flew Malaysian to Europe, stayed in Barcelona and then cruised with Crystal in the Mediterranean and Black seas; flying home from Istanbul, through Kuala Lumpur, to Adelaide. In Barcelona we stayed at the Casa Fusta, we booked a superior room, but on arrival we were upgraded to a deluxe room with breakfast included and provided with a 50 euro credit for in-house dining. At the back end of our cruise we flew home through Kuala Lumpur and stayed at the Mandarin Oriental. We flew into Kuala Lumpur at 5.00am, arrived at the Mandarin Oriental at 6.00am and were immediately provided with an upgraded room, breakfast included, together with an invitation to attend “high tea” at a time of our choice. We flew out of Kuala Lumpur a few days later at 9.00pm after a free late checkout at 6.00pm. All of the above extras were provided through Virtuoso. Now to the Crystal cruise. As virtuoso travellers we received an immediate invitation to the “Virtuoso Voyagers Club”. This invitation outlined the following benefits; 1. Invitation to a special welcome reception, meet virtuoso hosts 2. Pre-paid gratuities for our room stewardess, dining room waiter and assistant 3. Participation in an “invitation only” shore advent All of this is provided with the additional support, as required, from 2 Virtuoso Hosts who travel for the duration of the cruise. At the normal US$10 per day per person, the Virtuoso benefit makes a substantial contribution. This is enhanced by the shore event; normally they were in the $200 per person range. On the Baltic Sea leg of our cruise the shore event was a tour of Odessa, conducted by a fluent and very knowledgeable English speaking guide who not only described the features of the historic sites we visited, but also their significance in Ukraine history. In this context the lunch at a Ukrainian “folk” restaurant was a bonus. The Ukraine cuisine was excellent as indeed were the folk quartet who entertained us via, music, song and dance. It was an exceptional day as we learnt firsthand of the struggle that the Ukraine had in establishing its independence from Russia. Just from this short outline it is easy to see the additional advantages that accrue when you seek to travel in comfort and stay in high quality accommodation.
