After breakfast, we begin the day with a visit to Mumbai's Gateway of India and the Prince of Wales Museum. The Gateway of India was built in 1924 to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to India, though ironically, it was from there that the last British troops left the country after independence. A unique feature of Mumbai is the dhobi--a traditional laundryman who will collect your dirty linen and return it neatly pressed to your doorstep! The most famous dhobi ghat (or "laundry station") is at Saat Rasta near Mahalaxmi Station, where almost two hundred dhobis work together in what has always been a hereditary occupation. After lunch at a local restaurant, we'll visit Mumbai Filmcity. Here, we will explore famous movie locations, a feel for Bollywood cinema and its history. We'll experience post-production activities like Foley effects and chroma shooting while learning the art of singing. Wear costumes and makeup as you pose for pictures at selfie points. If we're lucky, we might see a sneak peek of a live dance-and-comedy show! This evening we will enjoy a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant. (B, L, D)
