If you feel like you've seen it all before, this incredible trip witnessing some of Scandinavia's most picturesque scenery could be for you! Majestic mountains and heavenly fjords in Norway combine with the serene landscapes of Sweden on an epic journey that includes every great Scandinavian rail experience. On this exciting Scandic sojourn, visit the fascinating cities of Stockholm, Bergen and Oslo, discover Sami culture and travel beyond the Arctic Circle to the 'Land of the Midnight Sun.' Rail journeys include the iconic Inlandsbanan train, a journey on one of the world’s most northerly railway lines - the Ofoten Railway, the Rauma Railway, the amazingly steep and scenic Flåm Railway, and Northern Europe’s highest railway line, the Bergen Railway.
Sit back, relax and soak up the magnificent Northern European scenery on this unique 16-day rail journey, fully escorted by Phil Hoffmann - Managing Director and founder of Phil Hoffmann Travel.
Commencing with two nights in Stockholm, your rail adventure begins on an inland journey to Östersund, a city nestled on the shore of beautiful Lake Storsjon. Travel North to the untamed wilderness of Lapland where you’ll discover a taste of the unique Sami culture – the only indigenous people of Scandinavia. Cross the Arctic Circle to Jokkmokk and enjoy a journey on the Ofoten Railway, through Sweden’s breathtaking mountains into Norway. Search for the Northern Lights in Narvik before heading to Trondheim – one of Norway’s oldest cities.
Stunning scenery awaits as you join the 114-kilometre-long Rauma Railway for a journey through magnificent, contrasting landscapes to Geiranger. Explore the exquisite scenery of the spectacular Geirangerfjord by boat and witness majestic snow-covered mountain peaks, wild waterfalls and lush-green vegetation. Travel by coach through Norway’s incredible fjords to the quaint village of Flåm where you will snake your way through steep terrain on the Flåm Railway. Cruise Norway’s longest and deepest fjord, Sognefjord before heading to the delightful city of Bergen with its vibrantly colourful houses.
Discover Bergen’s old town – the UNESCO-listed Bryggen – surrounded by fjords and nestled beneath seven hills before riding the Fløibanen funicular railway to the top of Mount Fløyen where you can enjoy sweeping views of Bergen, its harbours and surrounding mountains. Departure from Bergen is on Northern Europe’s highest railway line, the Bergen Railway, climbing remote areas of Western Norway before descending into Oslo for the last night of your Arctic experience.
