Itinerary

Day 1 – Tokyo
Hotel: Hilton Tokyo Odaiba

Welcome to Tokyo, Japan’s vibrant capital city. A fascinating blend of futuristic innovation and deep-rooted tradition, Tokyo is renowned for its towering skyscrapers, lively neighbourhoods and world-class culinary scene. Upon arrival, enjoy time at leisure to relax or begin exploring this dynamic city.

Day 2 – Tokyo
Hotel: Hilton Tokyo Odaiba
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today begins with a visit to Asakusa, one of Tokyo’s most historic districts and home to the iconic Sensō-ji Temple, Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple. Wander through the bustling Nakamise shopping street before enjoying a memorable Sumo Experience & Show, where former wrestlers demonstrate traditional techniques followed by a chanko nabe lunch.

Continue to Akihabara, Tokyo’s famous electronics and anime district, known for its vibrant pop culture atmosphere. This evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner at Grillogy Bar and Grill featuring expertly prepared grilled cuisine.

Day 3 – Tokyo → Hakone (Mt Fuji)
Hotel: Ryuguden Onsen Hotel (Traditional Ryokan)
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Travel to the breathtaking Mount Fuji region, one of Japan’s most iconic landscapes. Visit Arakurayama Sengen Park for spectacular views of Mt Fuji, before continuing to the Mount Fuji 5th Station, located approximately halfway up the mountain.

Tonight, experience traditional Japanese hospitality with a stay at a luxury ryokan in Hakone, complete with a traditional kaiseki dinner.

Day 4 – Hakone (Mt Fuji)
Hotel: Ryuguden Onsen Hotel (Traditional Ryokan)
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Enjoy a full day at leisure in Hakone. Relax in the ryokan’s soothing onsen hot springs overlooking Lake Ashi and Mt Fuji, or explore the surrounding area including Hakone Shrine, scenic cruises, ropeways and museums. Another traditional dinner will be served this evening.

Day 5 – Hakone → Matsumoto → Takayama
Hotel: TOKYU STAY Hida-Takayama Musubi-no-Yu
Meals: Breakfast

Journey through the Japanese Alps to Matsumoto, home to Japan’s oldest remaining five-tiered castle, Matsumoto Castle, often referred to as the “Crow Castle” due to its striking black exterior. Continue to the Matsumoto City Museum of Art, featuring works by renowned artist Yayoi Kusama.

Later, travel onwards to the charming mountain town of Takayama.

Day 6 – Takayama
Hotel: TOKYU STAY Hida-Takayama Musubi-no-Yu
Meals: Breakfast

Discover Takayama’s beautifully preserved Old Town, lined with traditional merchant houses and historic streets. Visit Takayama Jinya, a fascinating Edo-period government building, before enjoying a sake tasting at one of the region’s historic breweries.

Day 7 – Takayama → Shirakawa-gō → Kanazawa
Hotel: ANA Crowne Plaza Kanazawa
Meals: Breakfast

Travel to Shirakawa-gō, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed village renowned for its traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses with steeply pitched thatched roofs. Set amongst picturesque mountain scenery, this historic village offers a glimpse into rural Japan of centuries past. Continue onwards to Kanazawa.

Day 8 – Kanazawa
Hotel: ANA Crowne Plaza Kanazawa
Meals: Breakfast

Today is at leisure to explore Kanazawa. Discover highlights such as Kenrokuen Garden, Kanazawa Castle, Omicho Market and the charming Higashi Chaya District. Optional cultural experiences including gold leaf crafting, pottery making and traditional dyeing are available.

Day 9 – Kanazawa → Kyoto
Hotel: Kyoto Brighton Hotel
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Visit Eiheiji, one of Japan’s most important Zen Buddhist monasteries, set amongst peaceful forested hills. Afterwards, enjoy lunch at a local seafood market before continuing to Kyoto, Japan’s cultural heart. This evening, perhaps explore the atmospheric streets of Gion.

Day 10 – Kyoto
Hotel: Kyoto Brighton Hotel
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Travel to Uji to visit the elegant Byodo-in Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its Phoenix Hall and beautiful gardens. Enjoy lunch overlooking the Uji River before visiting the iconic Fushimi Inari Taisha, renowned for its thousands of vibrant red torii gates winding through the forested hillside.

Day 11 – Kyoto
Hotel: Kyoto Brighton Hotel
Meals: Breakfast

Explore more of Kyoto today, beginning with the famous Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion), beautifully reflected in its surrounding pond and gardens. Continue to the scenic Arashiyama district, home to the enchanting Bamboo Grove and the Hozu River.

Later, participate in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony before enjoying time to wander Kyoto’s historic streets.

Day 12 – Kyoto → Hiroshima
Hotel: Hotel Granvia Hiroshima
Meals: Breakfast

Depart Kyoto and stop at the magnificent Himeji Castle, Japan’s most famous and best-preserved feudal castle. Continue onwards to Hiroshima, where the evening is at leisure to experience the city’s renowned local cuisine, including okonomiyaki.

Day 13 – Hiroshima → Miyajima Island → Hiroshima
Hotel: Hotel Granvia Hiroshima
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Visit Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome, important symbols of peace and resilience. Afterwards, enjoy Hiroshima’s famous okonomiyaki for lunch before taking a ferry to Miyajima Island, home to the iconic floating torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine.

This evening, celebrate your journey with a farewell dinner overlooking the Hiroshima skyline.

Day 14 – Hiroshima → Osaka

Meals: Breakfast

Travel by Shinkansen (bullet train) to Osaka, Japan’s energetic culinary capital. Spend time exploring the city’s vibrant districts, iconic landmarks and famous street food scene before settling into your hotel for the evening.

Day 15 – Osaka
Meals: Breakfast

After breakfast, your unforgettable journey through Japan comes to an end. Farewell your fellow travellers as you conclude your exploration of Japan’s rich culture, history and cuisine.
