Overview

This voyage along the coasts of Italy, France, and Spain offers a taste of Mediterranean living at its finest. Bidding farewell to the cultural riches of Rome, sail north to the Tuscan port of Livorno, from where you can take trips to the world-leading museums and galleries of Florence, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, or the famed vineyards of Chianti. Next, Villefranche-sur-Mer introduces us to France’s Cote d’Azur, with pristine beaches and 16th-century churches to admire, before it’s time to don your chicest outfit for a stroll around one of Europe’s most glamorous destinations, Saint Tropez, where a glass of rosé overlooking the water is a must. After a relaxing day at sea, the next stop is Port-Vendres, a pretty fishing village in southeastern France, then crossing into Spain, for stops in Menorca to explore the lovely, whitewashed streets of Mahón, and Palma de Mallorca, which offers world-class restaurants, excellent shopping, and impressive architecture. Finally, arrive in Barcelona, before your voyage ends, to allow you plenty of time to admire Gaudí’s masterpieces, soak up the vibe at one of the city beaches, and hop between the tapas bars of the Gothic Quarter.

Itinerary

Day 1 | Rome (Civitavecchia)

Departs 7.00pm

Many passengers use Civitavecchia as a stepping stone to the ancient wonders of Rome, which are a mere hour or so away by train or road. But with its pretty piazzas, strollable seafront promenade, and bustling open-air markets, the historic fishing port is a destination unto itself. Highlights include the impressive 16th-century Forte Michelangelo, built to defend the harbor from pirate raids; the mineral-rich Ficoncella Thermal Baths, beloved by locals and visitors alike; and the beautiful Baroque architecture of Cattedrale di San Francesco and Santa Maria dell'Orazione. Don't leave without sampling the fresh, local seafood, preferably washed down with a glass of crisp Frascati.

Day 2 | Livorno (Tuscany), Italy

Arrive 8.00am – Departs 8.00pm

Giotto, Brunelleschi, Botticelli and Michelangelo made their marks of genius here. This cradle of the Renaissance owes its UNESCO status to the overwhelming influence the city and its museums, churches, architecture and artworks have had on Europe and, ultimately, the world. Vestiges of this enlightened period are everywhere today – at the Uffizi gallery, the Palazzos Pitta and Vecchio and throughout the city streets.

Day 3 | La Spezia, Italy

Arrive 7.00am – Departs 6.00pm

Situated between Genoa and Pisa on the Ligurian Sea, La Spezia is ideally positioned for day trips, most notably to the villages of the Cinque Terre. Clinging to the rugged coast that unfurls west of La Spezia, the villages and hillsides of this section of the Italian Riviera are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and reputed to be some of the most picturesque destinations of Italy, if not in the world. That is not to say that the town of La Spezia isn't worth spending some time in. It has an impressive nautical history, with the Naval Arsenal being developed here in the 1860s. Today, many nautical-themed diversions can be enjoyed, including a visit to the naval museum, or Museo Tecnico Navale, which exhibits an interesting collection of ships' figureheads. On display at the seafront are boats, parks, and people who gladly take in the Italian sunshine and demonstrate how to live la dolce vita.

Day 4 | Villefranche-sur-Mer

Arrive 7.00am – Departs 7.00pm

Perched along the glowing Cote D'azur is the charming town of Villefranche-sur-Mer, a treasure trove of historical, cultural, and natural wonders. From its pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters to its captivating blend of architectural styles in the port, citadel, and old town, there's no shortage of sights to behold. Take a stroll through the cobblestone streets, admire 16th-century churches that have captivated the likes of Jean Cocteau, and enjoy a delicious meal as you watch the colourful boats come and go in the lovingly preserved port.

Day 5 | Saint Tropez

Arrive 8.00am – Departs 6.00pm

France's iconic Mediterranean destination, where luxurious yachts, picturesque beaches, and a vibrant nightlife scene can be found. A summer playground for celebrities, artists and writers vacationing here since the height of its popularity in the 1950s and 60s, St-Tropez's famous beaches are still frequented by an international clientele who seek a lively night life and piece of the "St-Trop" allure. Magnificent yachts line the port, as owners vie to achieve titles the biggest, most luxurious or most enthusiastic crew.

Day 6 | Day at Sea

Day 7 | Port Vendres

Arrive 8.00am – Departs 5.00pm

Port-Vendres has been a thriving harbor town since the Greeks discovered its sheltered waters. Today, visitors will discover a beautiful Mediterranean destination, with fishing boats, yachts and cruise ships compatibly sharing space in the deep-water port and locals sharing coffee and croissant at the cafes. The natural beauty of this Mediterranean locale is on display all around, memorably discoverable with snorkelling and diving expeditions, a walk on a pebbly beach or bike ride in the hills.

Day 8 | Porto Mahon

Arrive 9.00am – Departs 6.00pm

Whether you're captivated by maritime history, intrigued by cultural heritage, or simply seeking a scenic escape, Porto Mahon has something to offer. Its blend of coastal beauty, historical richness, and Mediterranean charm makes it a delightful and worthwhile destination for those exploring the Balearic Islands. The city's charm lies in its historical significance, evident in its well-preserved architecture that reflects a mix of Spanish, British, and Mediterranean influences. The 18th-century Fort Marlborough and the impressive Santa Maria Church are just a couple of the many architectural gems to explore, so make sure you pack some comfortable shoes and get exploring on foot. The town's pretty waterfront promenade invites leisurely strolls, and the bustling harbor showcases everything from traditional fishing boats to luxury yachts, while the city's relaxed ambiance extends to its local markets, quaint cafes, and tapas bars, where visitors can savour authentic Spanish cuisine.

Day 9 | Palma De Mallorca

Arrive 8.00am – Departs 6.00pm

Palma de Mallorca, rich in monuments of many ages, was founded by the Romans more than 2,000 years ago. A magnificent rose-colored Gothic cathedral dominates the palm-fringed waterfront of its urban center. Mallorca, known as the `Island of Tranquility,` is the largest and most developed of the Balearic group. Steep mountains, serene valleys and wide plains form its varied landscape. Visit the island's quaint villages and the monastery where George Sand and Frederic Chopin spent a winter.

Day 10 | Barcelona

Arrive 8.00am

Past, present, and future converge in the Catalan capital – a place steeped in centuries of history but with a palpably youthful spirit. From the Roman ruins and maze-like medieval streets of the Gothic Quarter to the wonderfully whimsical architecture of Antoni Gaudí, and the Modernist masterpieces of the Picasso Museum and Fundació Joan Miró, there are treasures old and new at every turn. The city's dining scene is an attraction unto itself: keep it low key with plates of paella and jugs of sangria by the seafront, snack on jamón ibérico and fried seafood in the street markets or indulge in Michelin-starred tasting menus.
