After more than five years, Cathay Pacific is set to resume its highly anticipated direct flights between Adelaide and Hong Kong, starting 11 November 2025. This long-awaited return marks a significant milestone for South Australia, restoring the final piece of Adelaide’s pre-COVID international network. With this connection re-established, all of the international routes previously suspended due to the global pandemic will once again be operational.

For travellers and businesses, this is fantastic news. Not only does it reopen the gateway between South Australia and one of Asia’s most important hubs, but it also strengthens cultural ties, tourism opportunities, and economic exchange between the regions. The renewed connection is expected to inject up to $32 million annually into the local economy — a welcome boost for tourism operators, exporters, and the wider business community.

Cathay Pacific's business class passengers and eligible frequent flyers — those with Cathay Diamond, Qantas Platinum, or equivalent Oneworld Emerald status — will also benefit from access to the newly opened Qantas Business Lounge, enhancing the overall travel experience.

When and How You Can Fly

Cathay Pacific will operate three flights per week on this route, with departures from Adelaide every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. The service will run seasonally through to 27 March 2026.

Travellers can also now enjoy the comfort and modern features of the Airbus A350-900. This next-generation aircraft seats 280 passengers and, for the first time ever on this route, introduces Premium Economy — offering extra space, comfort, and an upgraded experience for those wanting to travel in style without breaking the bank.

What This Means for South Australia

This new service goes beyond convenience — it reopens vital connections between South Australia and the world. Hong Kong is not only a vibrant destination in its own right but also a major international hub, offering seamless onward connections to China, Japan, Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America. Whether you're planning a business trip, visiting family and friends, or ready to experience your next overseas adventure, this service continues to put us and the world back within easy reach.

The return of Cathay Pacific is also a big win for exporters, enabling faster and more efficient freight transport to key Asian markets — a vital piece of the puzzle for South Australia’s growing food, wine, and seafood industries.
