Home to some of the most picture perfect beaches in the world, a holiday on the Maldives offers everything you’d expect from a tropical island escape and more. Located in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean just beneath India, it’s made up of 1,190 islands, of which only 200 are inhabited and grouped into 26 atolls.

With deep blue seas, lush tropical vegetation, white sand beaches fringed with swaying palm trees, crystal clear waters and a colourful underwater world – you can laze about in the sun just relaxing or take part in the many water sports and activities available.

The capital is Malé, a tiny yet bustling and prosperous town with brightly coloured buildings. Despite the fact that life moves at a much faster pace in Malé than it does on the islands, this is where you’ll get to experience the real Maldives; none more so than in the produce markets. Watch as locals from all over the country gather together to buy and sell fruit, vegetables and seafood. Visit the somewhat ugly building that houses the National Museum and witness displays of sultans’ thrones and ceremonial dresses and turbans.

When you’re truly ready to escape, head out to one of the many luxury islands resorts, each with their own distinct feel and character, offering standards of accommodation that will cater for every budget. Experience absolute calm and tranquillity as you unwind from the chaotic modern world and enjoy year-round sunshine in your private patch of paradise. With a one resort per island policy, you can be assured of complete safety and privacy.

Snorkel or dive anywhere in the Maldives, and you’ll share the water with giant turtles and rainbow-hued tropical fish swimming amongst vivid coral. Travel to one of the uninhabited islands and experience the true life of a local. Try your hand at night time reef fishing and enjoy eating your mouth-watering, barbequed catch under a sky of a million glittering stars. A magical way to see this beautiful country is from the seat of a sea plane; where you can look down over the spectacular scenery of turquoise coloured reefs, shallow lagoons, quaint little fishing villages and pristine islands.

Escape to the Maldives

The Maldives looks exactly like the photos. White sand, water so blue it barely seems real, coral reefs just below the surface and a quiet that is hard to find anywhere else. Overwater villas, private beaches and long, slow days with nowhere particular to be. If you are after seclusion, underwater exploring or simply a chance to switch off completely, the Maldives does it better than almost anywhere.

Maldives Holiday Packages with Flights

Our Maldives holidays can bundle flights, resort accommodation, transfers and meals into one booking. Getting to the Maldives involves a few moving parts, especially the seaplane or speedboat transfer from Malé to your resort, so having everything arranged upfront makes a real difference. We work with resorts across the atolls, from smaller boutique islands to the well-known luxury spots, and can match you with the right one for your budget.

Maldives Holiday Packages for Couples

The Maldives and romance go hand in hand. Private overwater villas, dinner on the sand at sunset, couples' spa treatments and beaches where you might not see another person all day. Our Maldives holidays for couples are popular with honeymooners and anniversary travellers, but they work just as well for anyone who wants a proper getaway for two.

Maldives Family Holiday Packages

More Maldives resorts now cater to families than you might expect. Spacious villas, kids' clubs, water sports for all ages and marine programmes that get children out on the reef are increasingly common. Our Maldives family holiday packages focus on these resorts, so the whole family can enjoy the setting together.

FAQs

When is the best time to visit the Maldives?

The Maldives is warm year-round. The dry season from November to April is the most popular window, with calm seas, clear skies and good visibility for snorkelling and diving. From May to October you may get short bursts of rain, but resorts are quieter and prices are often lower.

How long is the flight from Australia to the Maldives?

From Sydney or Melbourne, flights take around 11 to 13 hours with one stopover. From Adelaide, expect closer to 14 hours with a connection. Singapore, Colombo and Dubai are the most common transit points. Once you land in Malé, your resort transfer is usually by speedboat or seaplane, which is an experience on its own.

Is the Maldives good for families?

Yes. More resorts are set up for families now than ever, with shallow lagoons, kids' clubs and marine education programmes. It is a safe, calm environment where families can spend proper time together.

What can I do in the Maldives?

Snorkelling and diving top the list, with manta rays, whale sharks and turtles regularly spotted. You can also go fishing, take sunset cruises, explore local islands or just do very little from your villa.
