Itinerary

 Day 1 - Arrive Cape Town

Upon arrival in Cape Town, we’ll greet you and transfer you to your hotel, affectionately known by locals and regulars as Mount Nellie. Situated at the foot of Table Mountain, and within walking distance of Company’s Garden, this exquisitely restored colonial hotel was painted its distinctive shade of pink in 1918. This evening, join your fellow travellers and APT Tour Director for a welcome dinner at the hotel.

Stay: Three Nights, Cape Town, Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel

Day 2 - Cape Town

After breakfast, head out to discover the charms of Cape Town. Built by Dutch colonialists from 1666 to 1679, stop at the Castle of Good Hope for a tour of this historic pentagonal fortress, which is the oldest existing building in South Africa. Visit District Six Museum and, through its informative and thought provoking presentations, learn about the culture and sobering Apartheid-era history of Cape Town and South Africa. Afterwards, board the aerial cableway to the top of Table Mountain, where panoramic vistas of the city and surrounding landscape await. Tonight, dine  and savour Cape Town’s fabulous cuisine.

Day 3 - Cape Town, Cape Peninsula

After breakfast this morning, you will journey along the spectacular coastal Chapman’s Peak Drive to Cape Point. En route, take in South African beach scenery, glimpses of quaint villages and stop at the ‘tip’ of Africa, Cape Point, before continuing to Simon’s Town for lunch. Nearby is Boulders Beach, where you will see a colony of penguins before returning to your hotel.

Day 4 - Cape Town, Stellenbosch

FREEDOM OF CHOICE™

Perhaps visit Robben Island and learn about the prison where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated from 1964 to 1982, and life on the island. Or discover the Victoria & Alfred (V&A) Waterfront with a visit to Zeitz MOCAA, the largest museum of contemporary African art in the world. Alternatively, take part in a Heritage Tour, where you will discover the colourful neighbourhood of Bo-Kaap.

After your Freedom of Choice activity, head for the oak-shaded streets of Stellenbosch and spend the afternoon at the Lanzerac Hotel. Here, let your luxury accommodation’s tremendous history, character and charm unfold before you, amid a backdrop of magnificent mountains.

Day 5 – Stellenbosch

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCE

Today you'll explore historic Stellenbosch, and admire its beautiful Cape Dutch architecture and colonial history. You will experience the town’s storied past, remarkable culture and inspiring artwork on a walking tour, before tasting traditional South African dishes such as savoury Bobotie and sweet Amarula mousse.

After exploring Stellenbosch, spend the rest of the day at your accommodation’s estate. Surrounded by mountains and wine farms, you can relax or partake in the activities offered within the property.

Day 6 - Cape Town, Kruger National Park

Fly to Kruger today and transfer to your private lodge, set on 15,000 hectares within Kruger National Park. Your home for the next three nights will offer ample opportunities to seek out the local inhabitants: some 40 different mammal species, including the Big Five (the lion, leopard, black rhinoceros, African bush elephant and African buffalo), along with over 300 bird species. This evening, enjoy a round of sundowners as you soak up the magnificent African sunset before a delicious dinner.

Day 7 - Kruger National Park

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCE

Rise early for a morning game drive, which presents the perfect opportunity to spot animals roaming in the wild.

After your morning game drive, head back to your lodge for time to relax before another game drive this afternoon. Your day ends with a Signature Experience under the stars.

Day 8 - Kruger National Park

This morning, you may like to join your experienced guides for an enthralling bushwalk. Immerse yourself in the wild and unspoiled landscape as you are shown how to look for animal tracks and learn about some of the local fauna used for numerous medicinal purposes. Your day rounds out with another vehicle-based game viewing, with a sundown toast to all that you have seen.

Day 9 - Kruger National Park, Johannesburg

Today, after a final morning game drive, you will fly to Johannesburg, where you will stay overnight in preparation for our flight to Livingstone in the morning.

Day 10 - Livingstone

Fly to Livingstone and enjoy ample time to explore your hotel, with the company of free-roaming zebras. Your hotel boasts direct access to Victoria Falls from dawn till dusk. In the late afternoon, you will embark on a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River, with sundowners and canapes served against the backdrop of a magnificent African sunset.

Day 11 - Livingstone

Head for a tour of Victoria Falls. Located on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe, and known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya (The Smoke That Thunders), Victoria Falls is the world’s largest sheet of falling water, with a total width of over 1700 metres and a drop of 108 metres. Learn about the history of the Falls and some of the significant geological features. This afternoon, marvel at the spectacular sight of thundering Victoria Falls from a helicopter flight. A delicious dinner is included this evening.

Day 12 – Livingstone

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCE

Perhaps rise early once again to make the most of your hotel’s direct access to the Falls, soaking up the serene beauty of the morning mist and cascading waters. Afterwards, savour breakfast in this spectacular setting. Later, enjoy a Signature Experience, where you'll marvel at the spectacular sight of Victoria Falls and the surrounding plains from a helicopter flight. Tonight, another unforgettable Signature Experience awaits.

Embark on an exhilarating helicopter flight and admire extraordinary aerial views of majestic Victoria Falls from above. The sheer beauty of this natural phenomenon will leave you spellbound. 

Signature Experience – Royal Livingstone Express Steam Train

Step aboard the luxurious Royal Livingstone Express steam train for a sumptuous five-course gourmet dinner, set against the awe-inspiring backdrop of Victoria Falls and its majestic surroundings. Upon reaching the historic Victoria Falls Bridge, you’ll have the opportunity to disembark and marvel at the breathtaking views, as the radiant African sun sets behind the cascading Falls.

Day 13 - Livingstone, Nairobi

After a leisurely morning before a light lunch, transfer to the airport for your flight to Nairobi. Upon arrival, you will meet your Tour Director and begin your East Africa journey.

Day 14 - Nairobi, Ngorongoro Crater

Take a flight via Kilimanjaro to Lake Manyara in Tanzania and travel by 4WD vehicles to your lodge. Enjoy time at leisure before dinner.

Day 15 - Ngorongoro Crater

Today at the Crater, you will stop for a picnic lunch, giving you time to take in the surrounds. Often referred to as “Africa’s Garden of Eden” and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, the Crater’s high walls provide a natural enclosure to vast numbers of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles and lions, so make sure you have your camera ready to capture the abundant wildlife.

Day 16 - Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCE

Today, you will be given the opportunity to visit a local school at the village of Mto Wa Mbu. Through our OneTomorrow Charitable Fund, APT assists Kilimatembo School with regular donations so it can continue to provide local children with the education they deserve.

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCE

Walk through a traditional village and learn about daily life - from how the Maasai construct their dwellings, to local bush food and medicines, and the culture of the Maasai.

Immerse yourself in two delightful Signature Experiences this morning. Afterwards, enjoy a traditional lunch before a game drive through Lake Manyara National Park. Return to your lodge for dinner this evening.

Day 17 - Olduvai Gorge, Serengeti National Park

At Olduvai Gorge, also known as the “Cradle of Mankind”, enjoy a fascinating private tour in which you will see some of the earliest evidence of our first human ancestors who existed in the area over one million years ago.

Today, your adventure continues as you take in the spectacular, expansive views of the world-famous Serengeti National Park. Keep an eye out for phenomenal wildlife among the endless plains en route to your Signature Experience.

Day 18 - Serengeti National Park

Embark on a game drive at sunrise, where you’ll encounter an awe-inspiring array of animals, which may include wildebeest, impala and African buffalo. Return to your luxurious lodge for some well-earned relaxation time, soaking up the stunning views and perhaps taking a refreshing dip in the infinity pool while basking in the African sun. Later, witness the savannah come alive on an incredible sunset game drive and watch in wonder as the unique animals prepare for nightfall. Finish the day in style with a delectable dinner.

Day 19 - Serengeti National Park

A third day in the national park offers the opportunity to spot any animals that you may have missed on game drives yesterday.

Day 20 - Serengeti National Park, Masai Mara

Board a light aircraft for your scenic flight to the Masai Mara, a vast and stunning wilderness that's home to a diverse array of wildlife and breathtaking vistas. Shortly after arriving, head off-road through the savannah on your first game drive. Afterwards, retire to your luxurious tented retreat, replete with a large comfortable bed, Persian rugs, cosy armchairs and a private ensuite with solar-heated water.

Day 21 - Masai Mara

Wake to the enchanting sounds of the African bush as you prepare to head out on a morning game drive through the private Mara North Conservancy. Spend the early afternoon relaxing at the camp,

perhaps watching resident hippos in the Mara River from your deck. Mid-afternoon is a perfect time for wildlife watching, giving you the chance to continue ticking species off your spotting list as the sun sets and the temperature cools.

Day 22 - Masai Mara

SIGNATURE EXPERIENCE

Travel a short way from your camp to a lantern lit bush kitchen where chefs will prepare a delectable dinner featuring local specialties. As you savour dinner, the entrancing noises of the bush will be heard in the background.

Explore the Masai Mara Reserve with a full-day game drive and a picnic lunch - an ideal opportunity for further wildlife viewing in the glorious African wilderness.

Day 23 - Masai Mara, Nairobi
