Physical Rating - Level 3 You need to be fit and active to participate in this tour. This tour involves getting on and off coaches, walking around sites, climbing steps or stairs, and navigating uneven terrain. On many of the days you will be active for most of the day. Expect to walk long distances each day (3-5 hours).

Day 1: Thursday 2 September 2027

Stay: Commodore Hotel, Cape Town – 4 nights*

Arrive to Cape Town International Airport and transfer to the hotel, close to the V&A Waterfront. Meet your tour escort at the hotel. This evening take a short walk to a local seafood restaurant for a Welcome Dinner. (D) 

Day 2: Friday 3 September 2027

After breakfast, set out on a coastal drive along the Cape Peninsula. Ride the Cape Point Funicular to the old lighthouse for sweeping views over the area. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, before some free time viewing the penguins at the Boulders Beach colony. (B, L)

Day 3: Saturday 4 September 2027

This morning ascend to the top of Table Mountain by cable car. Spend some time at the top admiring the views over Cape Town and surrounds, grab a bite to eat at one of the cafes, or pick up a couple of souvenirs at the gift shops. Later take a ferry to Robben Island, location of the prison that housed Nelson Mandela for many years. The local guides are former political prisoners intimately acquainted with the island’s history and stories. After lunch at a V&A Waterfront restaurant, enjoy some free time. This evening transfer to GOLD Restaurant for an interactive African drumming session with included dinner. (B, L, D)

Day 4: Sunday 5 September 2027

Today visit the Cape Winelands. While South Africa’s fertile valleys are famous for their crisp white and classic French-style red wines, the area is also a treasury and rustic beauty and sprawling estates. Spend the day exploring the villages of the region, and sampling some of the local product. (B)

Day 5: Monday 6 September 2027

Stay: Marriott Mossel Bay*

Travel east from Cape Town to Mossel Bay. Along the way stop at Stanford Hills Wine Estate for some wine tasting at this up and coming region. (B, L) 

Day 6: Tuesday 7 September 2027

Stay: Marriott Knysna Quays*

Today travel overland to Oudtshoorn and Knysna, visiting the Cango Caves and an Ostrich Farm on the way. The Cango Caves have formed over millions of years to create spectacular natural caverns. The Ostrich Farm teaches about the world’s largest bird while being driven past breeder bird and chick rearing camps. This evening take a relaxing 90 minute cruise on the Knysna Lagoon while watching the sun set. (B,L) 

Day 7: Wednesday 8 September 2027

Stay: The Beach Hotel, Port Elizabeth*

Continue along part of the Garden Route to the Tsitsikamma National Park. Enjoy some time to wander part of the coastline, or maybe one of the boardwalks that line the foreshore. Continue on to Port Elizabeth. (B, L) 

Day 8: Thursday 9 September 2027

Stay: Crawford's Beach Lodge, Dolphin room*

Depart early this morning for a half day safari in the Addo Elephant National Park. The guides have well trained eyes to spot the wildlife, and impart their local knowledge of local history, vegetation, local culture and stories for an entertaining morning. After the safari continue to Cintsa. (B, D) 

Day 9: Friday 10 September 2027

Stay: Gateway Hotel, Durban*

Travel to East London Airport and fly to Durban. On arrival to Durban transfer to nearby Umhlanga for an overnight stay. The hotel is located next to the Gateway Theatre of Shopping Complex. Wander through the many shops, watch a movie at the theatre or dine in one of the many restaurants. (B) 

Day 10: Saturday 11 September 2027

Stay: Anew Hotel Hluhluwe – 2 nights*

Travel over land from Umhlanga to Hluhluwe for a 2 night stay. Many nature lovers are drawn to this area for the blend of stunning scenery and the diversity of wildlife and marine life. This evening take an interpretive cruise along the St Lucia Estuary, home to pods of hippos, crocodiles, other game and many bird species. (B, D) 

Day 11: Sunday 12 September 2027

Enjoy a morning safari in South Africa’s oldest wildlife park – Hluhluwe-Imfolozi. The park is famous for being the best place to view the endangered black and white rhinos, along with many other species of wildlife roaming through the beautiful park. Spend the afternoon enjoying the hotel facilities. (B, D)

Day 12: Monday 13 September 2027

Stay: Mantenga Lodge*

Travel from Hluhluwe to Eswatini. Eswatini showcases its deeply entrenched culture and heritage and provides an unforgettable cultural experience. Visit the Swazi Cultural Village to meet some of the locals. They will entertain with uplifting traditional song and dance and show you around traditional thatch huts and explain how they lived. (B,D) 

Day 13: Tuesday 14 September 2027

Stay: Hippo Hollow Country Estate – 2 nights*

Continue travelling overland from Eswatini to Hazyview. This is regarded as one of the most beautiful provinces in South Africa boasting spectacular canyons, rivers, mountains and caves, as well as home to some of the worlds top nature reserves like Kruger National Park. Later this afternoon enjoy a game drive through Kruger National Park in search of the elusive Big Five. (B, D) 

Day 14: Wednesday 15 September 2027

Spend a full day touring the Panorama Route and some of the breathtaking sights along the way. Stop for a photo at the Three Rondavels, a natural formation that looks like the traditional circular homes of South Africa. Visit the Bourke’s Luck Potholes, rock formations formed by pebbles swirling in pools of water, before enjoying the panoramic view from the God’s Window lookout. (B, L, D)

Day 15: Thursday 16 September 2027 

Stay: Garden Court, Sandton City – 2 nights*

Travel today from Hazyview to Sandton. Along the way, visit the special Jane Goodall Institute Chimpanzee Eden, a sanctuary for chimpanzees that have been rescued from captivity. Enjoy a guided tour of the Institute and learn about the outreach programs providing assistance and awareness around these animals. (B) 

Day 16: Friday 17 September 2027

After breakfast head to the Apartheid Museum for a guided tour to better understand South Africa’s history of racial segregation and struggle for equality. Later visit the Hector Pieterson Museum, dedicated to one of the students that lost their lives during the Soweto uprising, one of the pivotal moments in the anti apartheid struggle. Enjoy lunch in a local Soweto restaurant before heading back to the hotel. This evening’s dinner is in a hotel near the Sandton area. (B, L, D)

Day 17: Saturday 18 September 2027

Check out of the hotel this morning before enjoying an orientation city tour of Pretoria. Later continue to Johannesburg Airport, where your tour concludes.

Twin share Room Match Policy In the event of a cancellation for a twin share room match, the travelling passenger may be required to pay for a single room supplement cost, which will not be covered under their travel insurance policy. Similarly, if a traveler decides whilst travelling that they do not want to share any longer, they will be required to pay the full costs for a single room. Refunds/Credits No refund is available in respect of any sightseeing tours, accommodation, meals or any other services not utilized or required during this tour. No refund is available for cancellations after the tour has commenced. Cancellations Cancellations of confirmed bookings will be subject to a $400 per person service fee plus any charges imposed by principals involved in operating the tour. Therefore, the cancellation fee may be up to the total cost for land and/or airfares. Cancelled bookings are non-transferable. Baggage Please refer to individual airline tickets for the baggage allowance for your flights. Airlines may charge you for baggage in excess of these allowances, which will be at passenger’s expense. Whilst on tour one main bag and 1 piece of hand luggage per person is allowed. Medical Advice It is wise to seek medical advice before travelling from a travel specialist doctor, or from your own GP. Travelers must meet Phil Hoffmann Travel ’Statement of Fitness’ standards to participate. Insurance Insurance is compulsory to cover against loss of deposit and loss of airfares, personal accident, medical cover etc. If you have an ongoing medical condition, you may be required to complete a pre-existing medical form. If you are over 70 years of age, you are required to complete a senior’s medical form. Your consultant will provide all the details. Children Participants must be over the age of 15. Responsibility Phil Hoffmann Travel reserves the right to alter or omit any part of the itinerary or change of reservation, features and/or means of conveyance without any notice and for any reason whatsoever. Phil Hoffmann Travel does not accept liability for failure on the part of transportation companies, hotel contractors and other principals whose responsibility is confined to their own operations. Phil Hoffmann Travel reserves the right to alter hotels used should the necessity arise. The transportation companies or firms shall be exempt from all liabilities in respect of any detention, delay, loss, damage, sickness or injury and by whom so ever caused and whatever kind occurring of or to the passenger at any time when the passenger is not on board a conveyance used or operated by the transportation companies or firms.
