AmaWaterways was founded in 2002 by three river cruise visionaries: Rudi Schreiner, Kristin Karst, and Jimmy Murphy. Though its official beginning was in the early 2000s, AmaWaterways’ roots trace back much further. Rudi, born in Vienna and passionate about travel and ship design, was already an industry pioneer – having helped launch the North American operations for several leading river cruise companies. His passion led him to build his first river vessel while on the Amazon in 1975!
Along with Kristin's deep expertise in customer service and travel, and Jimmy's entrepreneurial spirit from founding Brendan Vacations, AmaWaterways was established with a shared vision: to deliver a more luxurious, personal, and immersive river cruise experience.
